Shoddy Novels Bookshop is an independent bookstore in the central business district of Havensborough, Centralia.

Description

The shop is small and tightly packed, leaving barely enough room to walk the narrow rows between the stacks. The entire store is bathed in the pale yellow glow of aging fluorescent light fixtures.

Role in the community

Shoddy Novels is the preferred book shop of Dame Adorabelle's Academy faculty and students alike. There have been rumors that both Princess Alice and The Headmistress have been seen in the shop purchasing volumes from the same series of teen vampire romance novels.

Nobody can quite remember when the shop opened, though everyone is certain it wasn't always there.

Staff

The shop owner never seems to leave his place at the front counter. He diligently keeps watch over the store, except when Princess Alice or her friends are causing a ruckus, during which his attention is always coincidentally dedicated to talking with someone on the vintage telephone by the register.

The shop's only other employee is 18-year-old Craig, who can usually be found stocking new used books onto the shelves. Craig is generally on friendly terms with the Princess and her cohort, though he did once chase Big Bobby Butterson down the street with a broom after he caught her shoplifting. (He later discovered there was nothing missing, despite Bobby having confessed to the theft when challenged by Professor Forneus.)
