Millennium is a character in the Centralian supernatural teen drama series Stellar. She is a supernatural being of unknown origin who possesses expansive reality-warping powers, which she mostly uses to torment Stella Winterborn and her friends. While she claims to view mortal beings as "toys" who exist only to satisfy her eternal boredom, her actions reveal a deep fascination with humanity and curiosity about humanity's potential.

Nature and abilities

Millennium seems to possess the power to bend reality to her will, much like an Asterian. She self-identifies as omnipotent, eternal, and impossibly cute, though Stella would argue that all three of these claims are debatable.

Unlike witches, who can do almost anything with their magic but remain fundamentally anchored to the human experience and linear time, Millennium claims to be able to see the entirety of time and space simultaneously. This experience has left her with a nihilistic outlook, as she finds it difficult to find fulfillment when she has already seen everything there is to be seen.

One of Millennium's few weaknesses is her crippling fear of dogs, as demonstrated when Xandra introduced her to her pet, Bucky.

Relationship with humanity

Millennium openly refers to Stella as her "toy" and admits to "playing" with Stella and her friends to relieve her existential boredom. Despite the impossibly vast power differential between the two, Stella is not afraid to put Millennium in her place, bopping her over the head with her staff or a textbook on multiple occasions.

While Millennium outwardly regards humans with contempt, proclaiming humanity to be "beneath" her, she clearly possesses a deep fascination with humanity, human nature, and the ability of humans to "carry on day after day, despite knowing it all means nothing." Stella has described Millennium as "tsundere, but for the entire human race."

  • Xandra: If you're supposedly omnipotent, why are we doing any of this? Why not just snap your fingers and fix every problem in the world?
  • Millennium: The sheer entitlement! I won't solve all of humanity's problems because humanity doesn't deserve it.
  • Stella: That's not the real reason, is it?
  • Millennium: Shut up!
  • Stella: You won't solve humanity's problems because you think we can solve them on our own. And you want to see us do it. You want us to prove our worth to you and to ourselves.
  • Millennium: I said, shut up!

Millennium's intense curiosity often leads her to contrive bizarre situations to observe how humans will react. She is especially fond of trapping Stella and her friends in constructs she refers to as her "labyrinths", including a 1970s-style game show, an "escape room" created from a shopping mall, and a 1980s-style television sitcom.

The other Millennium

In season 5 episode "The New Millennium", Stella encounters an entity with the appearance of teenage boy also calling himself Millennium. Despite his claim that he is the same individual as the usual female Millennium, he distinctly differs in personality, temperament, and mannerisms. When the female Millennium next appears, she refers to Stella's interaction with the male Millennium as if his actions were her own. Whether the two portrayals represent two distinct individuals, a single individual altering their appearance, or some kind of hive mind remains a point of debate within the Stellar fandom.

The male Millennium has become a popular character among Stellar‌'s Tamblr fandom, where he is typically referred to as "Male-lennium" to distinguish him from "girl Millennium". There have been hours of arguments over whether or not posts relating "Male-lennium" belong in the #millennium stellar tag. Let's not even get into the Millennium/Millennium shipping fics.

Production

According to showrunner C. Madison Ravenswood, nobody on the production staff can recall who cast Millennium or when the character was introduced. "She just showed up on set one day, and when everybody looked at the script again, her parts were in it." Ravenswood is all too happy to take the credit, though, especially when fans praise Millennium's characterization.

Millennium appeared in 3 episodes of Stellar: The Animated Series, voiced by the same actor who portrayed her in the main series...we think.
