Rido Lenni (full name Millennium Peridot Sterling Calvin Brie) is a middle school student from the Wormwood neighborhood of Edge City who discovered he had been given psychic powers after a chance encounter with IRIS.
Leawood Hospital Incident
During the summer after 8th grade, Rido attempted to visit his best friend Madison Ravenswood at Leawood Memorial Hospital. After misreading the room number written by the receptionist—he confused 608 for 809—Rido inadvertently stumbled into a questionable experiment being carried out by men in lab coats. Rido attempted to show himself out, but he was pursued by men in black, who cornered him on the top level of the hospital's parking garage. Rido was about to surrender when he was rescued by a woman in a black SUV with no license plates.
The driver of the SUV, apparently an adult woman despite her childlike appearance, introduced herself as Baby Blue, owner of Ante Meridiem Electronics. Baby Blue refused to explain what happened, but offered Rido a part-time job at her store. Rido, understanding the implication, readily accepted.
Psychic abilities
In the wake of the incident at Leawood Hospital, Rido slowly discovered he now possessed unexplained paranormal abilities, most notably the ability to levitate and manipulate physical objects with his mind. He also found he can psychically "dissuade" people from taking any action simply by saying aloud "I don't think you will." (This power, however, ceases to work on anybody who becomes aware of it.)
Eventually, Rido was able to establish a telepathic communication link with Madison. While it only works across a short distance, it enables them to have private "conversations" even in the presence of others.
Ongoing exploits
Since escaping Leawood Hospital, Rido has been followed by men in black apparently working on behalf of IRIS, under the command of Special Investigator Minerva Park. As they have yet to capture him despite knowing where he lives, Rido theorizes that they're monitoring him rather than seeking to abduct him. Madison, on the other hand, thinks Minerva is just grossly incompetent.
Rido has continued his part-time work at Ante Meridiem Electronics, where he can remain under the watchful eye of Baby Blue, who seems to have a history with IRIS and extensive knowledge of their operations.
Friendship with Madison
Rido has been friends with Madison Ravenswood, who lives across the street from him, since they were small children.
In their free time, Madison and Rido perform as a pop-punk cover band called Wormwood Avenue, named for the main street through their home neighborhood. Their goal is to book at least one gig at a public venue before Madison has to move away the end of the summer.
