Work in progress. This one got a lot more detailed than I expected, thanks to a caffeine-fueled burst of inspiration. Gonna keep working on it the next couple of days. —Lenni

Biography

Escape from Leawood Hospital

During the summer after 8th grade, Rido went to Leawood Memorial Hospital to visit his best friend, Madison Ravenswood. Rido inadvertently read the room number written by the receptionist upside down and went to room 809 rather than Madison's room, 608. Room 809 appeared to be unoccupied, but when Rido stepped in to call for Madison, he was subjected to a loud, extremely high-pitched noise, causing him to turn and leave immediately.

In the corridor outside Room 809, Rido was approached by a tall man in a white lab coat. Rido explained that he'd visited the wrong room and asked him for help finding Madison's room. The man agreed, and prompted Rido to follow. Rido initially complied, but when the man led him through a door marked AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY and onto a freight elevator, Rido became suspicious. After the man in the lab coat refused Rido's polite attempts to decline further help, Rido ran for the nearest exit. The mysterious man gave chase, joined by several people in black suits who seemed to come from nowhere.

Seeing an opportunity, Rido slipped into a nearby elevator as its doors were closing and pressed the button for the highest floor. The elevator's ascent bought him some time, but he was left on the upper floor of the hospital parking garage with no obvious escape route. Rido heard the men in black ascending the nearby stairwells and he knew he was cornered.

That was when a black luxury SUV with no visible license plates sped up the ramp from the level below. The SUV stopped alongside Rido and its window rolled down to reveal its driver, who appeared to be a blue-haired little girl in a blue school uniform. The girl urged Rido to get into the car. Rido hesitated, demanding an explanation, but when the girl threatened to drive off and leave him behind, he relented. The two sped off in the black SUV, racing out of the garage and into the streets of Edge City.

After looping Edge City's central freeways a few times to ensure they were no longer being tailed, the girl drove to Ante Meridiem Electronics, where she led Rido in through the back entrance. She introduced herself as the shop's owner, retrocomputing enthusiast Baby Blue. When Rido, quite understandably, asked what the hell had just happened, Baby Blue ignored him and offered him a part-time job at her store. It took Rido a moment to understand the unspoken implication, but he ultimately accepted the position.

Relationships

Rido has been lifelong friends with Madison Ravenswood, who lives across the street from him. Madison and Rido perform as a musical duo called, appropriately, Madison and Rido. Their goal is to book at least one gig at a public venue before the end of the summer.

Rido was introduced to Baby Blue when she rescued him from being pursued by agents of IRIS outside Leawood Memorial Hospital. Baby Blue subsequently brought Rido on as a part time-employee at Ante Meridiem Electronics so the two can watch over one another. Even he's not sure if Baby Blue's Makarov is real or not.
