Royal Traffic Authority

The Royal Traffic Authority is the division of CenDOT responsible for road traffic control. Similar agencies exist at the local level in many larger cities, including the Metropolitan Traffic Authority in Queen City.

Organization

Officers of the RTA (and its local equivalents) are given the title of traffic marshal. Upon commission, traffic marshals are issued Waistcoats of Conspicuity authorized by Princess Alice and empowered to direct traffic on all public roads in Centralia.

The chief officer of the RTA is Amber Beacon.

Specialized services

Serenity Circle

A distinctive feature of the Serenity Circle district of Queen City is its complete lack of traffic signals or other fixed traffic control devices. Major intersections within the Serenity Circle are controlled by traffic marshals of the Queen City MTA at all times.

To discourage drivers from asking on-duty traffic marshals for directions, potentially causing a dangerous distraction, the Queen City MTA assigns some of the Serenity Circle's traffic marshals to "tourist duty" on a rotating schedule. When on "tourist duty", officers do not actively direct traffic but simply remain present on prominent street corners to provide information and directions to drivers and pedestrians. Officers on "tourist duty" are distinguished from on-duty officers by their bright pink Waistcoats of Conspicuity, allowing on-duty officers to tell drivers "I can't help you right now, but my colleague over there in the pink vest can tell you what you need to know."
