- Rudolf: It's a total, uh...other kind of hunt.
Stellar is a supernatural teen drama series airing on The WC 1 , created by Stephanie "Lil Miss" Muffet. Princess Alice is a noted fan of the series, as is The Headmistress, making it one of very few things the two can bond over.
The series centers on Stella Winterborn, a high school student from the fictional town of New Salem who learns she is an incredibly powerful witch. Together with her friend Rudolf, Stella must save New Salem from certain destruction while balancing her life as an ordinary teenage girl. You get the idea.
Characters
Stella Winterborn (played by Suletta Marsbury)
- A 16-year-old girl from the town of New Salem. Stella learns she is a witch after she inadvertently uses magic to un-burn her toast, fix Rudolf's broken glasses, and save the entire student body of New Salem High from the imminent structural collapse of the gym during a pep rally. You know, little stuff. Stella later learns she is exceptionally powerful even among witches and she is destined to save humanity from a coming calamity, which is kind of an unfair burden to saddle a high school sophomore with, if you really think about it.
Rudolf Ravenwood (played by Alistair R. Ravenwood)
- Stella's best friend and love interest. Skilled at physical combat due to having been raised by his grandfather as a warrior for a mysterious cult called The New Century. Xandra often calls him "Rudy". He hates being called "Rudy".
Xandra (played by Katherine Lee Hayes)
- A rich cheerleader who Stella considers her rival for some reason. She's not actually that mean to Stella or Rudolf, but the narrative tends to frame her as the bad guy just to have some character to fill that role.
Laura Aashto (played by Hybris)
- Stella and Rudolf's nerdy friend, who spends all day holed up in New Salem High's library. Any time Stella needs someone to do hours and hours of research to dig her out of whatever trouble she's put herself in, it usually falls to Laura. But she gets paid in donuts and coffee, so she's cool with it.
Rory Pike (played by Carly Robin Ravenswood)
- A thousand-year-old vampire with the appearance and maturity of a 14-year-old girl. Previously the crown prince of a kingdom called Corbeau. A recurring character in seasons 1 and 2 but became a member of the regular cast from season 3 onward.
Orestes Bittermelon (played by Starry Knight)
- The series' main antagonist. Described by noted Centralian television critic and Tamblr bon vivant Lisette "raccoon-sex-dungeon" Johanssen as "Peak Demon Twink" and "one of Starry Knight's top three roles tbh[…] wild he doesn’t do more live action, smdh."
Millennium (played by Millennium Adora Brie, but like, she's a little kid)
- A mysterious little girl who seemingly has the ability to warp reality to her whims. Likes to antagonize the protagonists for her own amusement. One time she was a boy. It wasn't entirely clear if the boy Millennium and the girl Millennium are actually the same entity.
Pike Rory (played by Pike)
- A completely different character from Rory Pike, obviously. I have no idea why you would get those two confused.
Production
All "magic" scenes in Stellar were filmed entirely with practical effects. When asked why, the crew explained that the network did not provide enough budget to film real magic, an explanation that makes sense and does not need to be questioned.
Exterior scenes of New Salem High School were filmed at South Harmony High School in South Harmony, Queen City, which happens to be the high school Rudolf's actor Alistair R. Ravenwood (and his sister Carly Robin Ravenswood) attended.
Episodes
"Take A Look, It's in a Book"
- Stella searches the New Salem High library for a specific book needed to fix a spell gone wrong, only to find Xandra had checked out the book minutes before she arrived--leaving Stella with no choice but to try to get on Xandra's good side long enough to convince her to hand over the book.
"Be Prepared To Stop"
- After failing to master her driving lessons, Stella attempts to pass her licensing exam by enchanting her father's car to drive itself. She successfully passes the test, but loses her control over the spell, causing the car to erratically pilot itself through the streets of New Salem. Stella and the license examiner eventually manage to escape the car, which drives off into the woods, never to be seen again. When Stella's father reports the car stolen, Stella begins to wonder if she is now complicit in insurance fraud.
"Witch Side Story"
- Millennium curses the population of New Salem to sing their day-to-day lives as if they are characters in a musical theater production. Stella and Rudolf determine that the only way to break the curse is to get together enough of their friends to perform an ensemble number that Millennium finds satisfying. Guest starring Carly Robin Ravenswood as Rory Pike.
Reception
- How you gonna bring Carly Robin Ravenswood on for the musical episode and then not have her sing anything? They gave freakin' Xandra her own solo number even though Katherine Lee Hayes can't sing to save her life, but the frontwoman of the Strawberry Jams!!? No, let's just have her show up and do almost nothing. Lil Miss Muffet always has such contempt for the fandom.
