Ford Lincoln Mercury is the sheriff of Union County, Lakeland, Zeoria.

As the sheriff, Mercury is tasked with investigating the murders frequently occurring near Hybris, the so-called "Sweet Tooth Detective". He understandably finds this somewhat exasperating. By his own admission, the only reason he hasn't retired is because nobody else is willing to run for sheriff due to the staggering incidence of major crimes in Union County.
