The Ministry of Public Safety is the government agency overseeing public safety services within Centralia.

The SafetyFairy frequently claims to work under the Ministry of Public Safety. No official records of this affiliation have been located, though lack of formal documentation is common among Fairies, even those employed by the Centralian government.

Private security regulations

In addition to providing law enforcement and emergency response services, the Ministry of Public Safety oversees the licensing and regulation of private security personnel.

Ministry of Public Safety regulations of security personnel are intended to prevent security guards from being mistaken for or misrepresenting themselves as law enforcement. Under current policies, licensed security guards may not identify themselves with the title "officer" or any police rank such as "constable", nor may they display such titles on uniforms or documentation. While the appearance of uniforms is not regulated, black and white uniforms like those worn by Centralian police officers are discouraged, with most security companies employing grey or tan uniforms.

Security vehicles are forbidden to be painted in the black and white scheme used by police cars, though a similar paint job with brown in place of black is commonplace. Flashing lights equipped on security vehicles shall only be amber in color, as green flashing lights are reserved for government traffic control vehicles. Security vehicles shall not be equipped with a siren or air horn.
