Jurisdiction

While its officers exercise nationwide jurisdiction, the Civil Guard primary provides police services to unincorporated areas, municipalities with populations of less than 50,000, and Crown properties within larger municipalities. Municipalities with a population of 50,000 or greater are required to operate their own police services, though the Civil Guard may be called for assistance within city limits, for example, to provide additional crowd control for a planned event, or in the aftermath of an attack by a scary monster.
