== The Great Detective ==
Hybris was born with ''mystery protagonist syndrome'', a rare medical condition that preternaturally draws her to locations where murders are about to occur.

Hybris encountered her first murder mystery at age 7, when her mother was killed in her family's rural home. Despite being a small child, she solved the case quite easily. Ever since then, she has firmly believed herself to be the most intelligent person in the world. It's not worth trying to argue with her on this point, trust me.

Today, Hybris is a sophomore at [[Jessica Fletcher Memorial High School]], where upperclassman [[A]] provides her with "detective gadgets" of dubious efficacy. Most days she can be seen wearing her late mother's [[Hybris's watch|silver wristwatch]], ostensibly as a memento, though also just because it looks cool.

Hybris has a tumultuous relationship with [[Sheriff Mercury]], who often becomes exasperated when she turns up at yet another crime scene. [[Sergeant Plymouth]], one of Mercury's deputies, is a little more patient with her.

== Name ==
Hybris has never revealed her real name. She claims this is to protect her safety, but she calls herself "Lady Hybris", so it might just be becasue she has a big ego. Other people are happy to use her chosen pseudonym, though few humor her on the faux title of nobility.
